Technique Tuesday: Steve Immerman
THE ART OF KILN-FORMED GLASS
Steve Immerman is internationally recognized for his mastery of kiln-formed glass, especially his signature strip-cut construction technique. Thin sheets of colored glass are precision-cut into strips and assembled edge-to-edge to create intricate patterns.
These strips are fused together in a kiln, then slumped over a mold to achieve elegant, flowing forms.
The brilliant orange interior features a crackle-like texture, achieved through carefully controlled surface effects during the fusing process. Multiple kiln firings— including fusing, annealing, and slumping-ensure strength, clarity, and lasting beauty.
Each piece is a unique expression of color, pattern, and expert craftsmanship.
