Steve Scherer

Steve Scherer has been working with borosilicate glass since 1967, first learning from a friend and his father in Decatur, Illinois as a senior in high school. After graduating with a degree in microbiology from the University of Illinois, his attraction to the glass and flame became more important to him than his scientific training and soon, his hobby became his vocation. Each ornament has been handcrafted in a gas oxygen flame as he focuses on rearranging the glass by adding, stretching, and selectively heating the work in progress to achieve the utmost detail.
