Romeo Glass
Minh Martin of Romeo Glass works in blown glass, seeking both beauty and functionality as the antidote to the ‘throw-away’ culture. Martin uses the beauty of his work to engage our affection and elevate our collective identity. Martin was born in Saigon, Vietnam and spent his early years in the Philippines. Upon returning to the US, his family lived in Washington DC, then returned to Lancaster Country, Pennsylvania and the Mennonite community from which both his parents derived. He attended Yale University where he majored in Geophysics and where, in his final year, he discovered the art department and took sculpture classes. Upon graduation, he found himself in Santa Barbara, California where he met The Great Bri'oni and was introduced to the art of glass. In his words, Minh Martin states, “I work in blown glass seeking both beauty and functionality. I believe that well-executed craft is the antidote to the throw-away culture and that the objects we surround ourselves with should engage our affection and shape our identity. By making durable and precious objects, we enrich ourselves and ensuing generations.”
