A native of Mobile, Alabama, Tommie Rush completed her BFA at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and continued her studies at the Arrowmount School and Northshore Pottery in the United States and Galeria Angela Hollings in West Germany. Her glasswork has appeared in over 46 selected shows throughout the U.S. and in Japan. her specialty is acid-etched, hand-blown glass. Tommie creates vessels ranging from small vases to spacious bowls that are reminiscent of work from the Art Nouveau period. Her translucent sandblasted surfaces make the work appear to be illuminated from within. While her glass creations are in many private collections they also appear in such public collections as the McDonald's Corporation, the Sheldon art Museum in Nebraska, the Mobile Museum of Art, The Bank of Nashville and Morgan Keegan & Company in Memphis.
